Cookie policy
What we store, why, and how you stay in control — non-essential cookies are always opt-in.
Effective date: July 10, 2026 · Last updated: September 12, 2026 (added Google Analytics 4 cookies)
This Cookie Policy explains how dyslexia-institute.com uses cookies and similar technologies (including localStorage). It works together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites. Similar technologies, like localStorage, store small pieces of data in your browser. They can remember preferences, keep sites working, and (with your consent) measure how sites are used.
2. How consent works on this site
When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. Non-essential cookies are not set until you opt in (GDPR-style consent). You can accept all, reject all, or choose categories — and change your mind at any time via Cookie Settings in the footer. Your choice is remembered for 12 months, then we ask again.
3. What we use
| Name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
di_cookie_consent_v1 | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie choices | 12 months |
di_a11y_prefs_v1 | Strictly necessary | Remembers your accessibility toolbar settings (font, spacing, text size) | Until cleared |
di_newsletter_seen | Strictly necessary | Prevents the newsletter popup from re-appearing repeatedly | 14 days |
_ga | Analytics (opt-in) | Google Analytics 4 — distinguishes visitors so we can count visits and see which pages help people most. Set only with your consent; the Google Analytics script does not load at all until you opt in. | 2 years |
_ga_* | Analytics (opt-in) | Google Analytics 4 — remembers session state for our specific property. Set only with your consent. | 2 years |
| Mailchimp cookies | Marketing (opt-in) | May be set when you interact with our newsletter signup, to measure signup campaigns | Per Mailchimp policy |
| Google Translate | Functional (on use) | Set only if you activate the translator in the accessibility toolbar | Per Google policy |
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. If you decline (or say nothing), the analytics script never loads and no analytics cookies are set. If you change your mind after accepting, we stop measurement and delete the _ga cookies. Google's practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy. When we add any other analytics or marketing tool, we will list its exact cookies here before enabling it.
4. Managing cookies in your browser
You can also control cookies in your browser settings (block, delete, or limit them) — see your browser's help pages. Blocking strictly necessary storage may affect features like the accessibility toolbar remembering your preferences.
5. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because non-essential cookies are opt-in by default, browsing with GPC or DNT enabled results in the same protective outcome: no analytics or marketing cookies without consent.
